Below are several pieces of information parents/gaurdians need to be aware of for dancers attending classes during the 2011/2012 term.
Lesson Times
Please be on time for classes. It is important that you have ample time to warm up and stretch to prevent injury whilst dancing.
Class Attire
JDA has a uniform policy which will be enforced at all classes.
• JDA Uniform T-shirt
• Black Shorts and/or Skirt
• Students without dance shoes may wear trainers or pumps.
• Students should remember to bring black duck tape for use with Jig shoes in order to minimise the possibility of slipping on the floor.
• Long hair should be tied back.
T-shirts, Shorts and Tracksuits with the academy logo and name are available for purchase three times a year, September (during registration), January & April. PLease ask Joseph for ay more information.
Drinks
ALWAYS bring a drink to lessons. (Preferably 1L water as fizzy drinks are inappropriate.)
Ceili and Figure Teams
Ceili and Figure teams are a large part of the Irish Dance Tradition. JDA introduce this form of dance to every dancer and is part of their curriculum at the Academy. Those wishing to compete as a solo dancer must be willing to compete as part of an academy team. This will be introduced at approximately Primary Grade.
Parents in Class
Due to the size of the classes this year, we regret to say parents are no longer allowed to sit in lessons. Parents of new beginners may stay for the first three lessons.
Feisanna (Competitions)
An Coimisiun have introduced a global rule which states as of 1st January 2011, All Novice and Primary dancers must wear a class dress or class uniform at all feisanna (Class costumes are now available to hire per term, [September - December, January -April & May - August]. No solo costumes will be allowed until a dancer reaches Intermediate Grade. You must inform Jean or Joe before purchasing any costume.
End of Lessons
At the end of lessons it would be much appreciated if students assist with the replacement of chairs and tables. The more that help the less time the job takes.
Workshops
Dancers competing at any major championship throughout the year or competing as part of a team must be prepared to attend extra classes. JDA will also try to organise workshops (extended classes) at a time to suit everyone so that extra practice is easily obtained.
Your dancers happiness and enjoyment is vital to their success at the Jean Davis Academy, if you have any questions about the academy, please feel free to contact us via the Contact page or speak to us at class.
